PROFILE: Scarborough Basketball Association

The Scarborough Basketball Association (SBA) was first established in 1996 to provide basketball for kids in Scarborough. The main focus of the SBA summer camps is to strengthen basketball fundamentals such as dribbling, passing, and shooting as well as developing a understanding of the game.

SBA runs for six weeks in the summer for children ages 5 to 14 years old. This program is designed for beginners and advanced children. The kids are separated into their skill level so that they can be challenged mentally and physically through different drills and games.

The kids are coached by Coach Sanders, a coach and referee of over 20 years, as well as Focus on Youth employees who have a passion for basketball. Though the camp is centred around basketball, coaches also focus on teaching skills that are valuable in the real world: teamwork, responsibility and sportsmanship.

The basketball camp is unique in that in addition to basketball training, participants get a full camp experience. Campers participate in low-organized games such as dodgeball, swimming and soccer. Building great relationships and creating a camp environment conducive to learning is part of what makes the SBA Summer Camp one of the best basketball camps in Toronto.
