PROFILE: Davenport-Perth Neighborhood Camp and Community Health Centre (Pope Paul VI)

The Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre (DPNCHC) is a respected multi-service agency located in Toronto’s West End. For three decades, they have played an important role in the lives of the residents of their community, assisting them to stay healthy, develop leadership skills, make positive lifestyle choices, build relationships, and work together to improve their living conditions and prospects for the future. Their core values are equity and empowerment, and they strongly believe in each person’s capacity to take responsibility for their own well-being.

Located at 1900 Davenport Rd, the DPNCHC camp is centered in the heart of Toronto’s Carleton Village. This midtown setting exposes children to multiculturalism and urbanism healthily in today’s society. Children also participate in arts and crafts, a variety of sports related activities, multicultural food days, as well as team building exercises.
More importantly though, they are given the opportunity to spend time with passionate staff and role models, helping them sprout into the young adults of the future.

The centre also offers a very unique Leaders in Training program to kids who are too old for most summer camps but young enough to gain basic leadership skills. This program based in Pope Paul VI Catholic School allows kids to prepare for leadership roles in jobs, schools, and everyday life.

The DPNCHC camp provides a safe space for kids to explore their local area as well as socialize among peers their own age. while they celebrate the diversity of the area, the camp staffs passionate peoples who are dedicated to making sure kids have an exciting summer. The DPNCHC ensures kids will have a space to develop themselves creatively and integrate a positive mindset for school years to come!

“At the DPNCHC children and youth can take free workshops, get involved in arts, cultural, and recreational activities, explore the city, and even benefit from job training. Projects like Youth Action Squad and Sassy are a great way to develop communication, leadership, conflict resolution, and other skills, while Girls’ Night Out and Just Us Guys provide safe spaces to explore life issues through discussions, workshops, and creative arts. ”
