PROFILE: Youth Unlimited – Seeds of Hope

During our trip to Youth Unlimited at St. Charles Garnier Catholic School, we were promptly greeted by a vibrant and hospitable environment teaming with energetic children. The kids were initially divided into two groups, one utilizing the prayer room. At the same time, the younger campers remained in the gym to engage in soccer, drawing, and various other activities alongside the staff.

The older campers were taught lessons from the Bible. They alternated in responding to questions they had previously jotted down on paper, sharing their beliefs and perspectives on specific scenarios. With the assistance of two exceptional Youth Unlimited staff members, they successfully facilitated the activities and ensured the full participation of all group members.

The second group in the gym was split into two smaller groups. The boys engaged in an exciting soccer match, while the girls relaxed, drawing to their hearts’ content and played board games.

Before lunch, the groups were given the option to either remain indoors and participate in sports or venture outside to play on the playground. Some of the younger children were being taught how to ride bicycles by staff members, who made certain that the children felt secure and safe while learning how to balance. On the other hand, those who already knew how to ride a bike were playing with each other and cycling around the play area, being careful to steer clear of those who were still learning to prevent any accidents.

After lunch, they gathered in a circle and participated in a brief session of “name all the campers” along with other guessing games. Every child had the chance to respond and do their best.

Following that, they took part in an exciting game of octopus and other enjoyable physical activities that tested both their mental and listening abilities.

To end the day, they gathered both staff and campers in the gym to present awards to every participant. Witnessing each camper walk up to receive their award, shake hands with the staff, and be recognized for their unique strengths was truly a heartwarming sight that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. The atmosphere was filled with happiness and acceptance as everyone cheered and clapped for one another. No longer was it just a camp, but a family for many.
