PROFILE: TCE Media Team

The Child Experience or TCE, is a summer day camp running across the GTA with the goal of giving kids a safe, affordable place to explore new activities, build friendships, and make the most of their summer. Behind the scenes, the TCE Media Team plays an important role in showing that experience to the wider community, and this summer, four FOY staff members have joined the effort.

Their responsibilities are far from simple. Each week, they travel to multiple camp locations throughout the GTA to gather photo and video content for TCE’s social media platforms. This requires dedicated coordination, as no two camps operate the same way. While one day may involve documenting a field trip, another could focus on hands-on arts session, so the team has to stay adaptable and think quickly to capture each moment effectively.

Beyond content creation, the team is also responsible for organizing and preparing material for posting, demanding strong time management given the number of locations they cover in a single week. For Zainab B., a member working at St. Nicholas of Bari with TCE Caledonia, some of her most memorable moments come from trips outside of camp, like a recent visit to the splash pad. Most of the time, her role involves interacting and engaging directly with campers rather than just filming. Zainab also points out how meaningful her role is on a larger scale, noting that as the only media presence at her location, she is responsible for showing families and future campers what TCE is truly like, playing a part of why people choose to join the camp.

Meanwhile, Steven B., another member at the TCE Sherwood location has found that his favourite memory is playing volleyball with the kids every breaktime. Moments such as these show how being part of the Media Team is not solely about documenting the camp, but also being present with the community they are capturing!
