PROFILE: BGC West Scarborough (Mary Ward)

BGC West Scarborough is part of BGC Canada. The mission of every Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.

Campers making the most of their free time

BGC West Scarborough is hosting camps at many locations this summer. These locations vary from West Scarborough, North Scarborough, and Birchmount. At the Mary Ward location, the program is open for children from ages 4-12 for a total of 7 weeks. These summer camps are held in target neighbourhoods to give kids who don’t usually get to participate in after-school programs the opportunity to have fun with their peers within the community.

These camps do a great job at building a community of those that attend these camps and come back once they graduate to help out in the camp they went to before. These communities aren’t exclusive to graduates either, as multiple members of staff join simply because they want to help out.

BGC wants all children and youth to discover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy, successful, and active participants in society. They operate under 5 core values: Belonging, Respect, Encouragement and Support, Working Together and Speaking Out.
