Child Development Institute is a charity that supports children, youth, and their families to transform their lives through innovative and impactful early learning and mental. CDI had helped families for more than 100 years by delivering unique and effective outcomes based off children mental health, family violence, early learning, and childcare services. CDI welcomes children with poor mental health and offers them a home.
Kiki and August, our FOY staff at CDI had the opportunity to experience CDI and support the community. Throughout their experience they have not only learned valuable lessons but created wholesome memories. Get to know their experienced based off our interview with them!
Q: Introduce yourself and your role at CDI
My name is Kiki, and I work for the Child Development Institute (CDI). The role I take
part in is a Junior Counsellor.
Q: What do you do in a day of work?
My day to day schedule is not too complicated. When the campers arrive, I’m expected
to greet them and offer them snacks, once they settle down and throughout the day. I
assist the councillors and senior councillors with any task they need help with or assign
to me. I help with running an activity or join in the game to keep the campers entertained.
Ensure the camp is kept clean for no safety reasons.
Q: What’s your favourite memory?
At camp I made many memories, yet one memory I made was when a camper called
after their session was over to say How kiki doing and how I was their favourite
councillor.
Q: Why did you join FOY?
I joined Focus On Youth because it was a job opportunity to grow and something I did
not want to miss out on.
Q5: What’s a lesson you learned these past 6 weeks?
A lesson I learned throughout my time being a counsellor was to not take things for
granted
Q6: What’s one word to describe work?
Experimental
