Toronto Community Housing (TCH) is the largest social housing provider in Canada. One of its various programs includes the Rookie League, a baseball- and sports-centred summer camp offered to children aged 6-12 for TCH tenants. One of such camps is located on the border of Scarborough on Midland and Danforth: TCH Gordonridge.
Every Thursday, the Gordonridge camp hosts a trip day, often with other Rookie Leagues on the east end of the city. On July 18th, TCH hosted their annual Big Sports Day with all east camps at Wishing Well Park on Pharmacy Ave. Of course, FOY’s media team wanted to document the ride!

With the unusually cool winds at their backs, the campers partook in soccer, bowling, baseball, and best of all, team spirit! The park was painted with neon pink as a hundred students had the time of their lives. Campers and counsellors alike broke sweats under the heat, dabbling in the various activities the amazing Gordonridge staff planned.

When the campers weren’t on the field, tables of arts and crafts were laid out for them to enjoy. Bracelets were made and stickers were stuck onto various items as souvenirs of the memorable day! Our Focus on Youth counsellors, Umaiza and Ayasi, played vital roles in ensuring that Big Sports Day continued to be a success for Gordonridge 2024.
