PROFILE: One Voice One Team – Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Lady of Lourdes is associated with ‘One Voice One Team‘, a program that delivers inspirational stories, physical activities, and mentorship. This school is specifically under their S.W.O.L.E. program led by youth leadership to teach five core leadership principles.

  1. Self-Respect
  2. Work Hard
  3. Overcome Adversity
  4. Lead by Example
  5. Excellence

Upon arrival at Our Lady of Lourdes, the counselors started the day with a game of “Simon Says.” Following this, they engaged in two rounds of “Octopus” with both the Focus on Youth staff, and the S.W.O.L.E. team participating themselves to enhance the children’s experience.

With both groups working hard to provide a comfortable space, they made sure that throughout the exhilarating play, the kids were safe and happy.

After playing Octopus, the counselors announced their plan to engage in a game of “Captain’s Coming” before lunch. The children were instructed to form a line and mimic the actions of the counselor in the middle only after a designated phrase was uttered. This thrilling elimination game not only captivated the children’s attention but also enhanced their listening abilities.

After lunch, the children were led back to the gymnasium and instructed to make a short skit illustrating the concept of “working hard,” one of the fundamental leadership principles promoted by S.W.O.L.E. They were divided into small groups, each supervised by a counselor from both Focus on Youth and One Voice One Team. With thirty minutes to prepare, the children then showcased their skits to their peers. Each group presented unique and imaginative storylines, demonstrating their boundless creativity.

They wrapped up the day by having a dance party together while music filled the air.
