The ME/DD summer program, hosted at Our Lady of Fatima and James Cardinal McGuigan, shapes a fun-filled summer for students with multiple exceptionalities. Two of our FOY camp counsellors, Faith and Vianca, are placed at Our Lady of Fatima, while another one of our camp counsellors, Princess, is placed at James Cardinal McGuigan. Both ME/DD locations are dedicated to providing a welcoming and safe environment for all the campers.
Princess begins her workday at 9:00 a.m., starting by asking her supervisor what tasks need to be completed. These tasks can include supervision, organizing, or domestic duties such as cleaning, doing laundry, and washing dishes. At 11:30 a.m., she takes her lunch break before resuming the assignments given earlier in the day. By 3:00 p.m., she is dismissed, marking the end of her workday.
Vianca and Faith begin their workday at Our Lady of Fatima at 8:15 a.m. by greeting staff, parents, and kids. By 9:30, kids have arrived at the school, ready to begin their day. From then, on Vianca and Faith rotate between the six ME/DD classes, offering support, supervision, and a fun time! Afterwards, the two assist in supervising recess until 11:50 a.m., where they handle administrative tasks such as supervising the office and answering phone calls. After lunch at 1 p.m., Vianca and Faith join with the ME/DD students until 2 p.m., where they assist in preparing students for home time. By 3:30, another successful day is completed!
At the Our Lady of Fatima ME/DD location, there is always something exciting! From theme days that include Halloween and Superhero Day to Water Days and having fun with the sprinklers, Our Lady of Fatima is always full of action!
Focus On Youth offers youth participants opportunities to contribute to external placements such as the ME/DD summer program. For ME/DD’s FOY helpers, they have exhibited dedication and enthusiasm, helping support a positive environment for children to learn, grow, and thrive in. We admire people like Princess, Vianca, and Faith for dedicating their summer to helping shape an unforgettable summer experience for many.
