At the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weston-Mount Dennis, Chris Blackwood, the Program Coordinator, seeks to “give our children an opportunity to travel the city of Toronto with our trips.”
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Weston Mount-Dennis is known by many as “a good place to be”. The club has an atmosphere of happiness and excitement that is impossible not to notice while at the camp. The children and staff are welcoming and greet people with a “good morning”, smiling broadly.
The children and youth experience new things by going on trips to go swimming and to visit the Microsoft store, Wild Water Kingdom, the ROM, Sunny side beach and Woodbine beach, among their many different excursions. These trips foster among the children new friendships and connections to their peers.
This club’s affiliation with Focus on Youth has seen only success – the result of engaged, reliable staff. According Chris Blackwood, “the partnership with TCDSB Focus on Youth is fantastic!”. When Bianka, the FOY Staff at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weston Mount-Dennis was asked what her favourite part about working at this camp was, she said it was, “coming in everyday seeing the kids being excited and teaching them new things. As well as spending time with them.”
